Family Story: Smith Family

The weather could not have been more gorgeous to take the Smith family to one of their favorite places- Lake Johnson.  I have known the Smith's since before I can remember.  Lara and I were always in Sunday school together and would sometimes play at each other's houses after church.  It has been a long time since I had seen Lara, so it was great to be back in their house and around her family.  Lara is currently living in Trinidad and Tabago and was only in Raleigh for a visit before heading back to the islands.  Can't wait till she is engaged - we've already arranged that I will be shooting that island wedding!

There are several different things that the Smith's love to do together on Sundays (now that we all aren't kids playing at each other's houses).

The family loves to sit around drinking coffee and tea, talking about life, and always laughing together.

Can't forget about the furry family members!

The Smith's love Lake Johnson.  On the way there and then once we got there I got to hear different stories from different family members about why Lake Johnson is so important to them.  I love that part of my job!

So when it came time to take pictures of Lara and Steve, once the serious ones were out of the way out came the crazy ideas.  I would like to point out that this first crazy shot is totally authentic- Lara was not faking shielding herself... Steve didn't give much warning to his stunt and Lara was scared for her life.

Luckily Lara had more warning this time around...

Being a typical big brother, instead of jumping together Steve decided to fake Lara out.

It is no shock that Lara and Steve belong to Ralph and Luella:  twins!

Back in June you might remember the shoot that I did with the Helms kids.  There is that great shot where Mark and Stephanie (Dad and Mom) are having a sweet moment and their kids are jumping out from behind them.  Well, I have learned that it doesn't matter if you are a preschooler or in your 20's, it is still fun to bug your parents.

Smith Family- It was so good to be around you all again.  I am so excited to see what wonderful things happen in your family during the coming years.  I hope to see you again soon!

Wedding Story: Well, Kinda (part2)

I don't know how many ways and how any times I am going to say it, but David and I LOVE fall and everything about it (ok so I don't like warm colors... except on leaves).  So with this breath of fall that has floated in this week, we thought we would kick it off by tricking you a little bit...

...that post earlier today?  David did it.  He even tricked me!  It even sounded like I had posted it.  Gut alas, it was my hubs.  His shots looked great!  Since we have not been able to blog a lot of pictures this month, I thought I would give you a taste of what I did at David Calvert's Shoot.

BTW...David Calvert and I have figured out that we are distantly related cousins, so as to not confuse you with all the Davids we have around here, I will call the subject of our shoot "CousinDave."

CousinDave took us to a fabulous first location down in Fuquay Varina.  I can't wait to go back-there is just so much there to work with!!

working with the 50mm...

Reader Poll: Which one do we like better?

Luckily we did not run into any dangerous creatures while climbing around inside this abandoned barn.

Right at the intersection of CousinDave's mind...

Wedding Story: Well, Kinda

Our friend, David Calvert, is a well versed and talented singer-songwriter.  He has been in quite a few bands throughout his years and come to a place musical maturity.  In his most recent growth, David's song writing has become something of a custom affair.  In the past year David has been asked to sing in weddings for friends and family at least once every month.  Being the willing musician that he is, David not only sang in these weddings but he wrote a unique song for each couple.

Now that is the kind of service we are all about!!

After acquiring a mass of songs in his wedding adventures David decided to record a EP of his collection.  And of course, who pushes an EP without new pictures.  Not this guy!

Here are some favs!

In the spotlight again!

Thanks David! We had so much fun.

Business Story: Moving forward...

... so we have figured out what is wrong with the blog, so tonight we are going to start restoring some of the most recent blog posts: Snowberger Wedding, Cahill Kids Shoot, and the Thomas Wedding.

In the mean time, head on over to our website--

The first day of September I parked my butt in front of the computer for 12 hours and changed it all around!  This week I will put the finishing touches on it by adding a page about the albums and canvases we offer.  Otherwise, it is done!  So head on over and look through our new galleries.  Let us know what you think about the new layout!

My Story: Thank You

A week ago in the wee hours of the morning, my life was turned upside down.  My strong, wise, popular, loving (etc) father passed away at age 50.  My family has just been devastated... along with the new burden of settling my father's estate along with protecting and carrying on his business.

Through this storm in my life, you all have been so amazing.  Whether you are a close family friend, or the client that I have only met the one time at your shoot-- you have all given me so much love and support.  Seriously, I have just been blown away with the love you keep pouring all over me, David, my mom Pam and my sister Amanda.  You have poured love, prayers, care (meals, flowers, mowing the lawn, taking out the trash, etc), tears, good stories about Daddy, and your time all over our lives.

Some of you would wonder why I would share this on my business blog.  Well, David and I are about stories.  Typically we step into your story at a happy time in your life: an engagement, your wedding, graduation, child's birthday, etc.  But there are times in life that our story is sadder, or more confusing.  After the funeral I had the clarity of mind to realize that as a photographer, I wish that I had had a photographer around... atleast to grab a few pictures of the 1000+ people that came to Daddy's funeral.  I guess I am sharing this to say a few things.  One is that we want to share our story with you like you do with us- this is now part of it.  We also want you to know that it is ok to want the less "happy" moments in your story documented.

We are back to work now.  I have been hearing from you about NC State Fair shoots- I'm thrilled you love the idea and I cant wait to book more of them!  It is exciting to start the serious wedding booking of 2009... next year will be awesome.

Thank you again for the many ways you love and support us.  We could not be more grateful to be a part of your story.

Personal Story...

... there are no words right now.

My apologies for the blog not being fixed.  At 3:30am on Sept 3rd, I learned that my 50 year old father had tragically died.  The blog is not at the front of my mind.

Thank you so much for your support and prayers.  If your wedding has not been processed and sent to you yet, please know that my team members/close friends/fellow photographers will be helping me work through that in the coming days to ensure that your images are returned to you in a timely manner.

Oh Technology....

.... so you are probably thinking, where in the world did the new blog go??  Why I am back to nas.image and why isnt it working?!?!

WELLLLL we were having problems with the new blog, so we decided to delete it, and then just re-do the old one with the new stuff and a new address.  When we did that the problems of the new site transferred to the old site along with the domain name- CRAP.  SO now life is easier bc both the new and old domain names come here, but the pictures are not loading correctly.  You can click on them and they will load, but hello, that is not fun.

Thanks so much for being patient.  In the mean time, head over to our website, and see all the updates I did yesterday.  I mean EVERYTHING is new!!!  YAY!!
