David + Photoshop= BFF

As my photography business is growing and progressing, I am finding that my husband is also growing more interested in it, and becoming better at it!   Just the other day we put Photoshop on Davids laptop and boy that was a good choice!  Once he knew the basics he was off and running- GEEZ he is good!  Just to give you an idea of the fabulousness he can bring to your images, please take a look at the following images that David took himself (and then recently edited) at the Met while I was in the bathroom...

Fun with Light and Amanda

Tonight I decided to play with light, my camera and my sister!  I do not get to do photography for fun enough.  We met at my parents house, in my old room, and here's what we came up with!  These are straight out of the camera, no photoshop...

My Favorite Holiday...

... is today!  Today, 24 years ago, my husband David Teeter hit the planet.  I sure am glad about that!!  This man is the most amazing husband!  You will also find him to be a fabulous photographer at your event- the man wows me constantly with his creativity!  I am so glad you were born David!

Here We GO!

Please excuse my absence.  Technology… sometimes it is hard to love it when it is acting up! But, alas, here I am with NYC pictures!  The hubs and I had a fabulous birthday trip to NYC from my parents.  Here is a brief rundown of our 36 hours in the big apple…

Saturday we arrived to a high of 26 degrees- eek!  Don’t worry, we layered well.  We spent most of Saturday in the Metropolitan Museum of Art.  

While I was in school I tried to shape all my papers and projects around women and their role in religion, culture, family and the scripture.  This first picture is a sculpture of a woman that was made somewhere around 3500 BCE in Egypt.  

After the Egyptian exhibit we wondered around a fashion, contemporary photography and Asian exhibits.  On our way to eat lunch at the restaurant inside the museum we found the Medieval and Renaissance art.  This first statue of Mary and Jesus is adorable because of how Jesus is holding Mary's face.  The other is funny because Jesus doesn't have a head.  Its ok, you can laugh at that.  It wont hurt Jesus' feelings one bit.  

After we were sufficiently inspired we braved the cold and the subway and headed back to the hotel… our poor skinny little hotel.  It reminded me of the place where the Order of the Phoenix hangs out in the fifth Harry Potter movie… yes? 

 

For dinner we decided to go a bit touristy and eat at Bubba Gump in Times Square.  Four years ago when David and I were little babies dating and working as staff with MissionsConnect, we ate at Bubba Gump together.  And how cute, they sat us at the table next to the one we sat at before- beautiful, I know.  Here we are overlooking Times Square 

After dinner comes the best part of all… WICKED!!  Ladies and gentlemen, this is the best show of all times.  For those of you that know me well this might come as a shock since Rent is the music of my heart.  But listen to me, Wicked is the most amazing Broadway show.  Everything about it was phenomenal- the theater, the stage, the cast, the music, the costumes, etc etc and so on.  Please, let me know if you want me to tell you more- I'd love to! 

Then Sunday we wake up and it's my birthday!  We first head to Chinatown so that I can buy a Coach bag for my little sis… I know, I know, the black market is bad.  Then I got to have my birthday lunch at the Life Café.  The Life Café is featured in both the musical and the movie versions of RENT.

And to make my birthday even more fun, they happened to sit us in Jonathan Larson's favorite bench… appropriately named "The Jonathan Larson Bench".  If you don’t know about this man and his story, please google him immediately.  He is the creator of Rent, and most of what happens in that musical came straight from his life and that of his friends.  

We only had a few hours left before we had to fly out, so we breezed in a funky thrift store, stumbled upon the International Center of Photography (only got 15 minutes in there).

Life as a Photographer...

... is fun.  While you wait for my NYC pictures to be posted tomorrow, I just want to direct your attention to something VERY fun.  A few weeks ago I had the opportunity to head to Charlotte with two of my photographer lovies from the Wake Forest, NC area... April Sirit of Evoke Photography and Jo Liston of the Wake Forest Portrait Shoppe.  We attended Mike Colon and Bob Davis' "Master Your Craft" seminar.  It was a long day, but a great one!  We learned a TON and I am already seeing a difference in how I exist as a photographer.  While we did tons of learning, we also did tons of laughing.  You can get the scoop here at April's blog first... and then you can see what Mike Colon's people thought about it here.  As you can see, we are kind of a big deal now.  It is funny that this is how I was able to get on the blog of a photographer whose starting package price is $10,000.  

But seriously, we did come away from this seminar with so much great info.  One thing that I have heard over and over again is that the top wedding photographers all say that when they started out, what really launched their career was not advertisement, their website, etc.  It was that group of people that believed in the art that they created, and were committed to sharing the news about their creativity with others.  I want to thank YOU for being a part of my beginning as a photographer.  I am blown away by the support that I have received  from you.  It is my passion to help tell people's stories so that they might be able to relive and share that story with others.  Here's to the journey ahead of us!

... but not able to post pictures!  SORRY... you'll just have to check back when the blog is ready to cooperate with me and let me post pictures!  Oh technology....

Fun Weekend Ahead!!

"So if you care to find me, look to the western skies!"  Ok so to find  me and the hubby this weekend, dont so much look west, look north!  My parents decided to gift their February babies with a 32 hour trip to NYC!!  YAAAAAY!  And if you couldnt guess by the opening sentence to this blog, they also got us tickets to see our current FAVORITE musical, Wicked!  I checked the weather and its going to be a high of 30 with snow already piled around, but thats ok, I can stand to celebrate my birth with snow on the ground.  I am sooo excited!  Look for pictures to come next week from our trip!

I have had some people ask about my website and why it is a little funky funky.  My fabulous friends Aaron and Bobby are in the process of putting together an amazing website for me to show my portfolio, etc.  I will make sure to announce when that is up and running!

This Bride to be is HOT!

I hate that I can only show you a little sneak peek of this gorgeous woman!  But dont fret, her wedding is right around the corner on March 8th so you wont have to wait too much longer!  She was brave and got out there today in chilly downtown Raleigh to get her sass on!  I do have her permission to share this america's-next-top-model-worthy picture... check out the hottness...

This lady was born to model... and her mom is a fabulous assistant!  Had a blast Annie!!  

Mary and Geoffrey: E-session in D.C!

I cant wait to bring this shoot to you!  My hubby, David, and I got to travel to Washington, D.C. last weekend to shoot an engagement session for my long time friend Mary and her fiance Geoffrey.  Mary and I have known each other since we were babies... and we have all the crazy stories and pictures to prove it!  I know that David and Geoffrey were thinking "Ok are they going to ever stop telling us stories from the past?!"  But we couldnt help it!  Mary is one of those people that I have always had the best time with.  Here is to a fabulous future for you two!!

Elgin Fuller has hit the planet!

Hello Elgin Thomas Fuller!!  I am so excited to show this guy off to the world.  Here he is, with Mom and Dad, in all his one month old glory!  It is so wild to meet the offspring of a friend you've had since high school.  We're all growing up... sigh.
